Symbol Description

The Hydra of Lerna is one of the most famous mythological beasts, since it entered into long term political allegory. This monster has nine poison spitting snake heads, and if you cut one off, two grow back in its place. It represents a problem with no straightforward solution, and extreme, insidious evil that cannot be quenched. In the myth of Heracles, the venom of the hydra was the ultimate agent of the hero's death, many years after the hydra itself was gone. It represents the adversarial forces that confront human endeavors.
