The wind is air in its active, mobile sense, and is linked with the creative breath (the "breath of God" from Genesis). The winds were numbered and connected with the points of the compass and the Zodiac, to evoke their cosmic significance. The conjunction of all the winds brings about the storm or hurricane, both a destructive and creative symbol.
